What’s It All About?
Perhaps you know that Easter is the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus. But have you ever wondered why? Why did Jesus choose to die? According to Romans 5:8, Christ died for YOU.
The Bible says in Romans 3:23 that “everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” This means that everyone is a sinner; and as such, we cannot save ourselves from the punishment for our sin which is death — eternal separation from God in hell. (“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23) Since there is nothing that we can do to cleanse ourselves from our own sin, we simply need a Savior.
God loved us so much that He was willing to send His perfect Son to be our Savior! Romans 5:8 says, “But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” According to I Corinthians 15:3-4, Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day just as the Scriptures predicted. God accepted Jesus’ sacrifice — He is no longer dead, but He is alive! Since Jesus paid the penalty for our sins, it is only through Him that we can be saved. In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through Me.”
To accept God’s gift of salvation, you may use this sample prayer as a guideline to help you express your desire to Him:
Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and that there is nothing I can do to earn my way into Heaven. I believe that Your death on the cross and your resurrection paid the penalty for my sins. I now accept Your gift of salvation and receive You as my Savior. Thank You for forgiving my sins and saving me by Your grace. Help me to follow You from this day forward. In Jesus’ name I ask these things, Amen.
Accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior is just the beginning of an exciting relationship. If you received God’s gift of salvation, let us know so we can pray with you and encourage you in your new life. You see, it’s not about church membership, but a relationship with the Creator of the universe. In the Gospel of John it is recorded: “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” That “someone” is Jesus and He did it for YOU!
Now, do something for Him. Find a Bible and begin reading it every day. The more you read the more you will understand Who God is and what His plan is for your life. Develop a closeness to Jesus, by praying (just speaking to Him like a friend) and wait on Him to speak to you. He loves you and wants His best for you. Thank Him, today and everyday, for His free gift of eternal life.
